A practice older than the building it sits in.
Since 1868, this firm and its predecessors have counseled families, businesses, and public institutions from the Historic Liberty Square. We are still here, doing the same work.
Withers, Brant, Igoe & Mullennix, P.C. is a full-service law firm of 11 attorneys serving the Northland, greater Kansas City, and Johnson County, Kansas.
Our lineage extends back to 1868. Conn Withers became a founding member of the modern firm when he joined the already longstanding practice of the Simrall family of lawyers on the Liberty Square in 1930. In the 1970s, Jerome Brant partnered with Withers to establish Withers-Brant. In 1993, that practice merged with the legal operations of Vincent "Mike" Igoe and Ron Mullennix, and the firm formally adopted the name it carries today.
The building
Since 1990 we have worked from Two South Main Street on the Historic Liberty Square. The building was raised in 1923 for the First National Bank of Liberty and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The original banking architecture is still visible throughout, the vault included.
Service to the profession and the community
Attorneys of this firm have served as presidents and directors of the Clay County Bar Association, as local county counselors, as city prosecutors, as area judges, as an assistant attorney general, and on the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar. One of our attorneys sat as a Missouri circuit judge for 26 years and chaired the committee that trains the state's new judges.
That record matters for a practical reason. When we advise a school district, a city, or a landowner facing condemnation, the advice comes from lawyers who have sat in those chairs.
What continuity buys a client
Some of our institutional client relationships date back more than a hundred years. A firm that has advised the same families and the same public bodies across generations accumulates something a new firm cannot buy: knowledge of how a matter got to where it is, and of what has already been tried.

How long has Withers, Brant, Igoe & Mullennix been in business?
The firm traces its lineage to 1868, when the Simrall family practiced law on the Liberty Square. Conn Withers joined that practice in 1930, Jerome Brant partnered with him in the 1970s to form Withers-Brant, and the 1993 merger with Vincent "Mike" Igoe and Ron Mullennix produced the firm as it stands today. Some institutional client relationships go back more than a hundred years.
Where is the firm located?
The main office is at 2 South Main Street on the Historic Liberty Square in Liberty, Missouri. That building dates to 1923, constructed for the First National Bank of Liberty and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Is the firm licensed in both Missouri and Kansas?
Yes. Several attorneys are admitted in both Missouri and Kansas, and the firm appears in the United States District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Missouri and the District of Kansas, as well as in the Seventh, Eighth, and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals. One attorney is admitted before the Supreme Court of the United States.
What makes this firm different from a large downtown practice?
Scale and continuity. 11 attorneys is large enough to cover nine practice areas in-house and small enough that the lawyer you hire is the lawyer who handles your matter. Several of our attorneys have held public office in these same counties: county counselor, city prosecutor, municipal judge, circuit judge. That means our advice is grounded in how these institutions actually operate.
