Landon Magnusson leads the firm’s appellate practice. He is admitted in the Seventh, Eighth, and Tenth Circuits and in federal district courts in both Missouri and Kansas, and he chairs the Appellate Practice Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.

Appeals are a different discipline from trials. The record is closed, the audience is a panel of judges reading briefs rather than a jury hearing testimony, and the case is won or lost on the written argument. Landon takes on appeals and cross-appeals, extraordinary writs, amicus curiae briefs, habeas corpus petitions, and post-judgment proceedings in the trial courts. That work includes both cases he has handled from the beginning and cases that come to him after another lawyer tried them.

His broader practice includes civil litigation involving contract and tort claims, banking, and construction disputes.

Landon holds an LL.M. from the Sorbonne in Paris and practices in French as well as English: nous parlons français. He was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2021 and a Missouri Lawyers Weekly Up & Coming Lawyer in 2020, and appeared on The Missouri Bar’s Pro Bono Wall of Fame three years running.
