Ward Brown represents property owners facing condemnation; he learned the other side of that fight first. Before turning his practice to landowners, he served as lead trial counsel for the Tax Increment Financing Commission of Kansas City, Missouri, taking property for public projects.

Since 2001 he has used that experience on behalf of owners, successfully representing landowners in hundreds of condemnation actions across Missouri and Kansas. Ward has tried highway and interstate projects, electric transmission lines, sewer and water district takings, airport and railroad expansions, school and university acquisitions, and levee and drainage districts. He knows how condemning authorities value property, where their appraisals are vulnerable, and what a case is actually worth before a commissioners’ hearing ever convenes.

His broader trial practice covers construction disputes, land use and zoning, insurance coverage, product liability, and general civil litigation. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States and three federal circuit courts of appeal.

Ward has given much of his life outside the office to children and health care in the Northland, chairing Jackson County CASA and the Liberty School District Foundation and serving as board president of both Tri-County Mental Health Foundation and the Liberty Hospital Foundation.
